There are a variety of oils that I use daily, on my salad, straight up, or for sautéing vegetables. Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat that benefits your heart’s health. You can heat olive oil up to about 325 F before it starts to smoke. Coconut oil is a saturated plant fat with lauric acid similar to the type of fat found in breast milk. Coconut oil can be heated to higher temperatures before it starts to break down and smoke. Flax oil is an omega-3 fat which is not commonly found in one’s diet; it should never be heated. I encourage at least one tablespoon of flax oil per one hundred pounds. Flax tends to reduce the impact of pain on one’s body. Using a good fat during the day tends to minimize continued craving for snacking.
