Chronic coughing is common in individuals who smoke, but people who come into our practice with a chronic cough may also suffer from adrenal gland fatigue. Your adrenal glands create cortisone, which naturally reduces inflammation. When you are under stress or consume food containing sugar, your adrenal glands must manage the sugar metabolism and the stress. I have noticed chronic, dry cough in patients with parasites; they may have a history of eating raw fish or wild game, of traveling to a developing nation, or of owning a cat. I suspect citrus as a factor in patients who include oranges and grapefruit in their daily routine.
I would minimize dairy, peanut butter, and sugar if you do not smoke and experience chronic coughing spells.
