Influenza (flu) is caused by a virus that has penetrated the system. The leading factor in vulnerability to the flu is lack of calcium, which normally holds the cell membranes together. Calcium deficiencies are caused by sugar or stress. Vitamin D deficiencies are also common with influenza. Vitamin D pulls calcium from the intestines and places it into the blood.


I help patients reduce their flu challenge with peppermint leaf oil at five drops per day. Peppermint leaf is antimicrobial, which means it prevents unwanted and unnecessary organisms from getting a foothold in your body. I also suggest adding a probiotic, or good bacteria, to your supplement regime. When people eat conventional food with chemicals sprayed or applied in the growing cycle, it can disrupt their normal gut flora or bacteria, creating what we call dysbiosis, an overgrowth of the “bad” organisms. Your immune system needs to be protected, so limit sugar, get plenty of sleep, and drink water. Water will purify the lymph system, which carries the “sludge” in the lymph ducts out to the liver and reduces your chances of being invaded by the influenza virus.
