Kidney stones are common in patients who do not drink enough water and/or drink a lot of soda. Soda alters normal calcium metabolism; the phosphoric acid used to create the carbonation disrupts release of calcium in the body.
Water consumption is really important if you do not want to deal with kidney stones. Your kidneys are the backup for your liver, and when your liver is compromised, the kidneys have additional work. To treat a kidney stone, divide one lemon into four sections and squeeze each piece into four ounces of water. Drink the fluid and eat the pulp of one segment every 15 minutes until the pain is gone. You may need several lemons if you have a history of kidney stones. Parsley, cilantro, and peppermint leaf (five drops daily) help the kidneys function at their peak.
