Ask Dr. Bob July 19, 2013
These were the questions that were asked in this episode of #AskDrBob. Below is the link to the video. Thank you for sending us your general health questions. We hope they make a difference in your life.
Bonus: Thinning Hair (What to do?)
Make sure your thyroid is up to functioning optimally, a TSH T3 T4 test will help. If your T3 is low, you need to support it. I recommend essential fatty acids as well.
1. What about the potential use of vit. K2 with the vit.D and especially with increased calcium use?
Information from myself and my communication with Biotics Research:
· Vitamin K2 is an important fat-soluble vitamin that plays critical roles in protecting your heart and brain, and building strong bones. It also plays an important role in cancer protection
· The biological role of vitamin K2 is to help move calcium into the proper areas in your body, such as your bones and teeth. It also helps remove calcium from areas where it shouldn’t be, such as in your arteries and soft tissues
· The optimal amounts of vitamin K2 are still under investigation, but it seems likely that 180 to 200 micrograms of vitamin K2 might be enough to activate your body’s K2-dependent proteins to shuttle calcium to the proper areas
· If you take oral vitamin D, you also need to take vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 deficiency is actually what produces the symptoms of vitamin D toxicity, which includes inappropriate calcification that can lead to hardening of your arteries
· If you take a calcium supplement, it’s important to maintain the proper balance between calcium, vitamin K2, vitamin D, and magnesium. Lack of balance between these nutrients is why calcium supplements have become associated with increased risk of heart attack and stroke
Biotics has always used vitamin K1 for bone building products (Osteo-B Plus, Osteo-B II, Prenatal Packs, Bio-Multi Plus etc) and used vitamin K2 for vascular products (Vasculo Sirt & Bio-K Forte Caps). Biotics, Bio-K Forte Caps are at a 1:10 ratio as far as vitamin k1 to vitamin K2. Biotics’ position on that is if you give too much vitamin K2 that you are going to alter the other ratios (calcium, phosphorus etc.) therefore they play it safe and just use the combo of vitamin k1 & vitamin K2 and the vitamin D product separately.
2. What do you recommend daily for women? Also, what do you think of DIM for reducing estrogen?
DIM is created to lower estrogen. I encourage broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. Oftentimes there is a need for vitamin B.
3. I have a question concerning my daughter. She has been struggling to conceive she has trouble with her monthly cycle, they have tried Invitro and that has failed twice. When she was a teenager I put her on birth control to help her periods. I seen your article on iodine issues. Can you tell me anything to help her?
I would recommend having a TSH T3 T4 test, and also to watch these videos from other female patients I have helped.
4. Insects love to bite me in the summer. My father-in-law says they don’t bother him because he eats lots of asparagus. Is there any truth to that? Do you recommend a diet-free insect repellant?
I would recommend vitamin B1, make sure it has thiamin inside.
5. What do you know about okra soaked in water and drinking it every day, lowering blood sugar?
No refined grains or sweet fruits.
6. Dr. Bob, I’m wondering what or why my husband always has such hot feet? Would this be a symptom of something going on in his body?
Vitamin B is essential.
7. Are Swanson’s vitamin’s natural or are they synthetic?
8. Is b-vital, the product of Biotics Research or is there a better b-vital produced someone else?
9. I’m looking a good energy supplement.
Energy is more than a supplement. Make sure your lifestyle is working for you. Drink water, go to bed earlier.
10. What can I do to eliminate water retention in my ankles and feet?
Check your heart and kidneys. Your kidneys are your second liver, make sure your liver is clean
11. Dr. Bob, I’m wondering what or why my husband always has such hot feet? Would this be a symptom of something going on in his body?
Vitamin B is essential.
