For more information, I have included the link to my “Drugless Guide to Balancing Female Hormones,” which now includes individual chapter downloads.
This month is also recognized as #NonGMO month. Skeptics often say that foods derived from GMO seeds, most common in soy, but also in canola oil, corn, and other grains don’t have an effect on your health, but after reviewing many exams of practice members at The Drugless Doctors, we have seen that your digestion is indeed impacted from GMO consumption. ⁣
⁣
One thing you can do today while grocery shopping is to look for the “Non-GMO Verified” label.⁣

These were the questions that were asked in this episode of #AskDrBob. Click the blue box to watch the video. Thank you for sending us your general health questions. We hope they make a difference in your life.

1. I would like to try Agrisept-L but have liver problems and do not want want to compromise any function.

Personally, I take ten drops per day. The only time I’ve seen liver challenges with Agrisept, is when there might be too many parasites. (More info on kupffer cells). Body signals of parasites are grinding your teeth at night.

2. How does radon affect the body?

If you are exposed, please consider purchasing a radon detector.

Notes About Radon (From Wikipedia): radioactive, colorless, odorless, tasteless noble gas, occurring naturally as the decay product of radium. It is one of the densest substances that remains a gas under normal conditions and is considered to be a health hazard due to its radioactivity. Its most stable isotope, 222Rn, has a half-life of 3.8 days. Due to its high radioactivity, it has been less well-studied by chemists, but a few compounds are known.

Radon is formed as part of the normal radioactive decay chain of uranium. Uranium has been present since the earth was formed and its most common isotope has a very long half-life (4.5 billion years), which is the amount of time required for one-half of uranium to break down. Uranium, radium, and thus radon, will continue to occur for millions of years at about the same concentrations as they do now.[1]

Radon is responsible for the majority of the mean public exposure to ionizing radiation. It is often the single largest contributor to an individual’s background radiation dose, and is the most variable from location to location. Radon gas from natural sources can accumulate in buildings, especially in confined areas such as attics, and basements. It can also be found in some spring waters and hot springs.[2]

3. I’m due for another analysis the first one said that i had problems with my thyroid and hormones I use to take a lot of statin drugs, and now I take vitamins & minerals. I detox 2 times a week and use an infrared sauna, but my skin is dry and I have like a little thick under my chin. The lady told me that I had a malabsorption that my body was not taking in the nutrients, and I’m overweight, I lost about 60 pounds but I’ve gained some back. I want to lose it plus more want to get to 140 pounds and I’m 5 feet 2 inches i have too much progesterone and not enough estrogen she says that I need the bioidentical hormone.

In my experience, too much progesterone comes from applying a progesterone cream. I suggest blood pressure from a sit to a stand (more info in vid). I also suggest an Adrenal Stress Test for the exact hormone situation in your body.

4. My sister has noticed that after eating cashews she has an orange oil that comes out with her BM. Is that a body signal for something? Should she avoid cashews?

The body signal can be from a plugged-up liver from stress/diet. I would limit cashew intake.

5. What causes swollen knees in adult women with pain & what may be lacking in her body?

First, it can be inflammation (too much gluten (wheat products), sugar, and cut back on dairy. I encourage you to squeeze your wrist (in video). Try adding flax or marine oil to help with inflammation, and/or a Bloodspot Fatty Acid Profile exam.

I have daily discussions with ladies who are living with the collateral damage from surgeries which were initiated because of estrogen toxicity. One of the most common procedures that is inflicted on the uninformed public is ablation. Ablation is a procedure that has initially been incorporated for altering heart rhythms and then for the reduction of heavy flow created by excessive menses. Heavy menses is a body signal of estrogen overload which is literally jamming up the function of the liver. I was prompted to write about ablation and heavy menses because I just finished having a consultation with a distraught female who did not know that the heavy menses could have been helped with drugless principles.

Estrogen is being mass produced and utilized for a variety of common household products including plastics, chemicals for cleaning, birth control, leather upholstery, yard treatments and food products that are not organic; dairy and animal products. Estrogen toxicity can be managed by choosing foods that promote optimal liver function; starting with Dr. Bob’s ABC’s which a step in the right direction. One-half of a red apple, one-third cup of beet fiber, and one medium carrot promote liver activity.

It has been estimated only 14% of the population consume the recommended five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. We are being exposed to an unprecedented amount of estrogen so it is so very important if you do not want to be told you have breast cancer, to eat more sulfur-based vegetables including broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Eating other sulfur-based foods like eggs, onions and garlic would assist your body in clearing the excessive estrogen levels. One of the best decisions you could make if you want to get really serious about preventing breast cancer would be to have your urine estrogen levels checked. You want the urine estrogen 2 levels to be greater than the 16 urine estrogen. I am so excited to be able to help the patients who come to our office, create a plan of wellness by supporting their bodies into normal levels of physiology.

If you have tender breasts and a heavy menses it will not go away by having your uterus cauterized with an ablation. You MUST control the clearing of estrogen. The urine estrogen test is a simple tool to help you determine the strategy of food choices. I would avoid all non-organic animal and dairy products. I would also be aware of the herbicides applied to your yard, use only organic cosmetic products, and for sure, eat green foods.

Drugless Action Steps

1. Avoid all foods with an added estrogen potential: Soy, canned and/or non-organic food.

2. Drink water from a pure source.

3. Eat three to five servings of green vegetables daily (Kale, Spinach, Collard Greens, etc.)

4. Add Dr. Bob’s ABC’s to your life for optimal liver support; ½ red apple, 1/3 cup of beets and one medium carrot

5. Add a liver supporting herb or nutritional supplement: Milk Thistle, Dandelion Root, Calcium D-Glucarate

If you are a regular Internet user, you know there are literally thousands of articles on health published daily, and recognizing trusted sources can actually be quite challenging. I was recently interviewed by a major magazine and the freelance writer asked me why I promoted kale as a source of calcium instead of milk? I chuckled in my response to her and suggested she has been reading too many “Got Milk” advertisements.

I explained to her the physiology of what cows eat and asked when was the last time she saw a cow eating cottage cheese, milk or ice cream. The long pause she gave was so long, I had to ask her if she was still there. She had an epiphany when I suggested cows eat green food which is loaded with calcium. I proceeded to inform her kale is the new beef, not only a great source of calcium, but also protein—much better than soy, which is a story in itself.

You, the public, are always searching for information from reliable, clinically substantiated sources, and the freelancer mentioned above, along with other journalists, are compensated for the information they provide. I also received two other requests for an interview the last few weeks with similar questions on outdated scenarios which I was not able to provide answers, since the protocols they wanted me to comment on are not a part of the time-tested “norm” of “Let food be your medicine…”

One common misconception in health articles is progesterone cream will resolve your estrogen dominance problem (heavy menses, tender breasts and PMS). Progesterone is the counterbalance partner to estrogen, meaning progesterone and estrogen are on a teeter-totter of life going back and forth, hopefully in harmony. Excessive levels of estrogen from our toxic environment is currently the more dominant one, and a substantial factor why we are experiencing an epidemic of estrogen-related disorders including breast cancer.

Progesterone is sourced naturally in the body from the primary building block for all steroids: Cholesterol [see the chart below]. Cholesterol is at the peak of the cascade that develops into pregnenelone, then to proceeding to become progesterone, and down the line to a variety of other steroid hormones.

One of the major options for progesterone utilization to prevent breast cancer is to balance estrogen. Hormonal estrogen harmony will not occur when a female continues to choose a refined sugar diet, requiring the release of sugar breakdown hormones to metabolize those sugars. The example in the chart is the final step of cortisol or also known as glucocorticosteroids.

When sugar is dominant, progesterone is dramatically depleted and is not able to answer the beck and call of the body to balance estrogen. The process appears to be hampered or stopped in women with cancer histories by the collateral damage of a sugar-induced progesterone deficiency which is needed to balance estrogen. I discuss this scenario in detail in “Dr. Bob’s Guide to Balancing Female Hormones”. We monitor our patient’s diet journal patterns. Sadly, it’s quite common to see most patients journals with massive sugar consumption, which also leads to obesity.

I am repeatedly asked by women who are desperate to get healthy, while having their hand in the cookie jar and desiring the best source of progesterone cream. In theory, applying progesterone to one’s breasts and/or abdomen does make sense to the scientific mind, but it is not getting to the cause of the problem. Over time, the negative feedback mechanism which is the natural system on body function is sabotaged. I do not promote progesterone creams and or bioidentical hormones. I promote a lifestyle of eating organic green vegetables and proteins that do not place a demand on the progesterone pathway. In fact, greens assist in the process of clearing estrogen. One of the best estrogen clearing foods is broccoli.

Creating a drugless plan for optimal female wellness not only includes knowing your urine-estrogen number, but you may consider having your saliva progesterone levels checked also. If your 16 urine-estrogen is elevated in the Estronex Urine test in comparison to the number 2 estrogen, it would be wise to have a saliva female hormone panel completed to create a plan of wellness. From my experience, patients who come into our office with a history of miscarriages, subpar thyroid function and MS tend to have deficient progesterone levels.

Drugless Action Steps

1. Do you use progesterone cream(s)? If yes, have your blood pressure tested both sitting then standing. If the standing blood pressure drops, you potentially are experiencing adrenal fatigue and the inability to create adequate progesterone.

2. Is your cholesterol level above normal? If yes, it may be a signal that you are either under stress and or consuming an abundance of refined sugars, or both.

3. Consider a Female Hormone Panel saliva assessment if you experience tender breasts, heavy menses, a history of miscarriages, low thyroid and/or full body weakness.

4. An Adrenal Stress Index will reveal cortisone levels which are dependent on progesterone.

5. Estronex Urine assessment for Estrogen 2 and 16 helps determine the excess of “bad” or proper “good” estrogen.

Weight management and control is key for optimal hormonal health. The extra fat around your waistline contributes to the formation of estrogen in both men and women. I was looking at some of my personal snapshots from way back in the 1990’s. I was carrying an estrogen-making machine (big belly) and am sure my waist was pressing thirty-eight “husky” inches. It’s definitely a lot easier to put on extra pounds versus hoping they will fall off; losing weight is not easy.

The real challenge men contend with is the fact estrogen competes with testosterone (women, on the other hand, are challenged with too much estrogen). Testosterone is the key hormone for men and estrogen is the principle hormone building block for females. Men do not have the natural metabolic pathway to process the massive amounts of estrogen found in the water we drink, the soy that is in nearly every processed food or “energy” bar today, and the steaks, burgers and chicken patties you pick up at your local franchise restaurant (read all labels of the food you eat!). I am treating more men today with enlarged prostate glands causing them to get up five or six times a night to urinate.

I recently had a number of men come into the office with elevated estrogen and low testosterone; they each gave me one of two answers—they just finished walking through a golf fairway or were fertilizing their yard. Golf course maintenance crews apply herbicides and pesticides to the greens and fairways to control weeds and bugs, but those sprays have a base of xenohormone producing estrogen.

I would not golf in the morning when there is dew on the grass blades.

Walking on the course will kick up the water droplets and vapors that you are going to inhale. I did not have the ability to assess hormones this easily in the past, but now with Zyto™ technology the process of estrogen/testosterone levels can be tested incredibly effortlessly. We can actually order a cradle to place your hand on to assess your hormone and other levels anywhere in the world; it works via a USB internet software, all you need is a computer.

You would be wise to incorporate a plan to reduce the massive amount of estrogen and the negative impact created by its exposure. This is by far one of the biggest sources of long-term health challenges I am seeing currently and will continue to be in the future. Forty-five thousand women die from breast cancer every year in the US; ninety-five percent of those cases are caused by excessive estrogen. The amount of men having breast cancer is also increasing; there are over two thousand cases of male breast cancer yearly. This number will continue to increase due to the toxic environment and the lack of information being provided. (Please pass this tip on).

Action Steps to manage estrogen which will help increase testosterone:

1. Do not eat soy or canned food.

2. Take Livotrit Plus™ two or three daily—this supports liver function.

3. Do not eat sugar; this depletes B vitamins needed to process estrogen.
