Each day, you and I are assaulted by a variety of toxins that are found in the water we drink, the food we eat and the air we breathe. When I first began practicing thirty-five years ago, I never would have believed I would be discussing the low levels of testosterone in men. Testosterone is the primary hormone in men that differentiates the male from female framework. It has been suggested that over twenty percent of the men in our society today who are over forty-years old are running low on testosterone; the engine oil light is blinking-so to speak. Testosterone deficiencies can be a reason why men may tend to be a bit more passive and perhaps not want to do go out with their “buddies”, friends and family; it is easier to stay home and hang out watching Ducky Dynasty.
Why are these events occurring all of a sudden-and what can YOU do about it? I have conversations daily with men who are having issues with multiple bathroom trips during the night, because if not, they would literally wet the bed. The prostate gland (which is located in the lower abdomen) can swell due to too much estrogen exposure. Over exposure to estrogen is one of the leading challenges men face today; when men have high estrogen they will generally have low testosterone.
The real question is “What is causing the high estrogen”? Synthetic estrogens, commonly called xenohormones, are found in the lining of canned foods, soy products, fertilizers (which is sprayed on your yard and golf fairway) and even in the water we drink. I want to point out that soy products do not balance hormonal health but tend to create a heavy amount of estrogen. The male physiology is not designed to process the overload of estrogen we are exposed to on a daily basis. Women have the pathways and physiology to process estrogen and, even so, many of them have tender breasts and heavy menses (signs of excessive estrogen in women) because their livers are compromised and cannot process the huge amount of synthetic estrogens.
Men, if you notice that you are getting a bit more passive with no desire to be active outside, or hang with your friends and family, or if you have lost your desire to be intimate with your mate, then it would be wise to follow these simple steps to raise your testosterone:
- Stop all soy consumption
- Start a liver cleansing product like Milk Thistle or Livotrit Plus™ to assist liver function; two(x) daily
- Add Maca Root – I use a product called b-Vital™; two(x) daily
- Do not use testosterone patches; the testosterone can be flipped to estrogen because of Aromatase
- Eat broccoli which will naturally lower estrogen
I would encourage you to evaluate what you are putting in and on your body. Estrogen has saturated our ecosystem; there is really no way to completely avoid it. If your breasts are starting to enlarge it is definitely be time to begin focusing on keeping your liver clean.
