As I’m sure you’re well aware, next month a lot of attention is on breast cancer. While cancer is a topic that hits home to many, and is not to be condemned or taken lightly, I believe there are drugless steps you can take to prevent breast cancer.

Before I go into my protocol, I want to look at what the American Cancer Society says about cancer: (Take from American Cancer Society)

What is a carcinogen?

Cancer is caused by changes in a cell’s DNA-its genetic “blueprint.” Some of these changes may be inherited from our parents, while others may be caused by outside exposures, which are often referred to as environmental factors. Environmental factors can include a wide-range of exposures, such as:

Lifestyle: Nutrition, tobacco use, physical activity, etc.

Naturally Occurring Exposures: Ultraviolet light, radon gas, infectious agents, etc.

Medical Treatments: Chemotherapy, radiation, immune system-suppressing drugs, etc.

Workplace Exposures: Chemicals, solvents, sprays, cleansers, vapors, air quality

Household Exposures: Herbicides, pesticides, paint vapors, gasoline, other chemicals

Pollution: Xenohormones or estrogens in water, herbicides, pesticides, and toxic air

Substances and exposures that can lead to cancer are called carcinogens. Some carcinogens do not affect your DNA directly, but lead to cancer in other ways.

Carcinogens do not cause cancer in every case, all the time. Substances labeled as carcinogens may have different levels of cancer-causing potential. Some may cause cancer only after prolonged, high levels of exposure. And for any particular person, the risk of developing cancer depends on many factors, including how they are exposed to a carcinogen, the length and intensity of the exposure, and the person’s genetic makeup.

My Thoughts:

Breast cancer takes upwards of 45,000 women’s lives each year in the US, and ninety-five percent of those cases are caused by excessive estrogen. Managing your estrogen and creating a plan for optimal breast health can be developed by respecting simple principles of apoptosis (limited cell life) and liver health:

-Iodine is antagonized by three halides (outside factors-bromine, fluorine, chlorine) found in your municipal water, pools and hot tubs. All of these deplete your iodine sources. Iodine is needed by the thyroid, and assists in proper colon function and reduces stress on your liver. Your liver is the clearing gland for excessive estrogen. Your urine-iodine levels can be assessed and monitored to guarantee continued cancer cell-life limitation via apoptosis. We offer iodine supplementation in liquid and solid form.

Vitamin D is commonly deficient in our society for various reasons including avoiding sunshine, sun blockers, geographic location and age. Adequate vitamin D improves apoptosis. Also, from my experience, individuals with dark skin skew on the lower end of vitamin D levels. Vitamin D can be supplemented as a capsule, liquid, or by being in the sunshine, outside.

-It is crucial to know your estrogen levels to create and manage your drugless prevention plan. We are living in a literal “sea of estrogen,” and it’s important to know your urine and saliva estrogen levels, which can be assessed and controlled. Urine estrogen levels can be used as a snapshot of the “bad” urine-estrogen (16) and the “good” or urine-estrogen (2). Knowing your estrogen, either by saliva or urine can confidently allow you to monitor your potential to control cancer growth.

-Body signals suggesting liver “overload” or toxicity would include: Tender breasts with menses, heavy menses, varicose veins, spider veins, cherry hemangiomas (small, red bumps), hemorrhoids, history of child bearing, gallbladder removal, and uterus ablation. Optimal liver function is absolutely necessary to clear estrogen. Vitamin B’s assist your liver in processing estrogen and are depleted by sugar and stress. Body signals of low vitamin B include sore muscles after exercise, crying easily, low blood pressure and fear of impending doom.

-Your liver is best supported with the following supplements: Milk thistle, dandelion root, peppermint leaf, and Dr. Bob’s ABCs (Apples, Beets, & Carrots)
