Lipoprotein Scores

Thanks for watching this #AskDrBob!

Hi Everyone!

These were the questions asked in this episode of #AskDrBob. If you have any general health questions, please email us, askdrbob@druglessdoctor.com, and we will present it in an upcoming episode. Thank you!

Hi! I’m a big fan of your content. Unfortunately my wife and I live in Michigan or else we would be regulars at your practice. I have a question though. Lots of people seem to recommend lemon water in the morning to help with weight loss. What are your thoughts? I’ve been regular with it for about 2 months now and feel pretty good. I also know lemon can help balance the body’s pH levels. On the other hand, you recommend limiting or eliminating fruit intake. The only other fruit I have is occasionally a banana for breakfast. I’m curious to hear your thoughts?

We promote a lemon with water for a good morning start. It would be a wedge of lemon with warm water. We do not promote bananas.

Raised calcium on a normal CBC seems to be a common issue. What is the difference between regular calcium and ionized calcium and are there ways to bring calcium into balance naturally?

We do not see calcium results on a CBC. We look at the calcium/phosphorus ratio. It should be 10 parts calcium to 4 parts phosphorus. Ionized calcium should be absorbed easier.

Doctor Bob, My LP (a) score is 63. Should I be concerned and if so, do you have suggestions about how to lower it?  Thank you.

A: Is the lipoprotein score suggesting atherosclerosis of blood vessels? We have been using the Omega Oils Serum Profile. When there is too much omega-6 fats, you can have inflammation. So, what comes first? A diet with inflammation, or the score?

Dr. Bob, I am probably low in iodine, but I have read that it is not good to take iodine if you have Hashimoto’s. I am on Synthroid. Should I take iodine, and how do I know how much is safe?

I am of the opinion to always follow the numbers. I see most individuals do not have enough iodine the first place and that is why the thyroid breaks down. I would suggest a Urine Iodine Loading Test to determine your iodine levels.
